The Cocaine Century
Let me introduce myself, so you get an idea of who’s talking here; I grew up in Amsterdam from the sixties to now.
I Started working night-life Amsterdam about 40 years ago. Working as a Waiter, Bartender, Cook, Ass. Club Mgr, Reserve DJ and even sometimes as door Security. I was fortunate to have witnessed these rich years, full of life and creation. When I wasn’t working I traveled a lot, sometimes dancing in the formerly well known Studio 54 in NYC or spending time at the wealthy beaches of the Cote_d’Ázur and many other major cities all over Europe and the US.
Being able to witness the changes from than to now brings me too certain conclusions connected to our developing Democracies, Capitalism and the influence that the use of drugs has had on our respective Societies.
When I began to work end seventies in Amsterdam we had the emergence of the first ,’legalized’, coffee-shops. In those days these shops we’re totally laid back only playing Reggae music and nothing else. We also witnessed the cocaine making its way onto the drugs scene. A scene that at first was primarily dominated by Speed, LSD, Heroine and some Cannabis. The Cocaine made its entry swift and soon spread to all major Cities in the Western World. Especially the Art-Scene, Lawyers, Dentists, Politicians, Wall Street brokers and anybody with some psychological insecurity. They all fell victim to this most boring drug of all. Pretty soon the cocaine use had found its way through the higher echelons of our society.
Many might still remember that the industrialized processing and distribution of cocaine, was at first introduced mid twentieth Century to manipulate the emerging social standing of those of color in America. It was distributed by CIA operatives to in order to divide black and other fractions in (sub-)urban cultures and play them against one another. They even went as far as distributing weapons to one and dope to the other fraction as long as they kept on fighting each-other. This way they stayed powerless and mostly poor. This changed gang-culture forever and because their junky customers were often upper-class citizens like lawyers, politicians, dentists and such; the social effect eventually touched all involved. The lower and upper-classes all started to lose civility and common sense. Empathy became a curse word.
As American culture was professionally sold around the World by Hollywood, so was its shallow philosophy of ,’filthy capitalism’, and greed. America went from a role-model of democracy to the World to a glorified ghetto of gang-culture, prostitution and politicized, corporate corruption, in less than 3 decades. It seemed that chaos became its primary export product. I have not seen anything socially productive or educational coming out of the United States these last 30 years.
And I strongly believe this is connected for a large part by the use of cocaine.
Cocaine tends to make most people feel like they are doing something, creating anything, being somebody, when none of that is true. But the biggest danger comes from the fact that cocaine enhances sentiments and emotions of uniqueness, arrogance and selfishness. Now in retrospect we can see these developments in the light of hindsight.
After the second World War, our banks and corporations were living their heydays. Economic growth seemed never ending. Spend/Spend/Spend no-one looked back to what we were doing to our Global environment nor the developing World. We just wanted to make money! And we did. So much so that so, that even the Soviet-Union started to believe in the capitalist system.
In the meantime the cocaine was slowly but surely impacting our societies, making them less Humane and Civilized. The Neoliberals and wall Street Master became the extremists of finance and even those democrats on the left became greedy and sold-out. Many of them were united in the fact that they all used cocaine. Most of them did not realize they lost empathy towards their fellow human beings. They looked forward, too afraid to ever look back. Where in every group of 100 people we used to have one sociopath, this percentage went up to 10 in every 100. And this did and still is impacting our collective societies and daily lives.
This how capitalism became an enemy of the People. A Liberal Society can handle a few greedy bastards, but not many thousands or millions all trying to climb over one another in order to arrive. This leaves nothing but a pile of bodies and many souls suffering under the weight of our collective stupidity.
At present we still spend more on our cars, tits, muscles and arms than we do on education. We are more inclined to spent a fortune on going to space than on sanitation, infrastructure and prosperity for all?! What’s that all about? Is that your Cocaine Century?!
The World and we as Species cannot allow our lives and this planet to be run by narrow minded, drug induced macho little bookkeepers. They should go back to keeping books and leave the creation of a healthy society up to real people. With real ideas and a vision for a healthy future for all!
So realize that what is happening at present in our modern societies is not normal. It is not how we humans are. It is what we seem to be becoming, if we allow that to happen. The mass consumption of drugs and the Dealer-Society has per-mutated into the fabric of even the software that we write. We now all try to turn each-other into junkies in the name of co-dependency and marketing goals. We have made basic universal human-rights less important than economic warfare between nations.
That is what cocaine has made you do!
You are creating a global market model based on junky-consumerism and perpetual warfare. YOU need to get your heads out of your arrogant smelly arses and smell the coffee. It is time to come to our collective senses again. We do not need to have a revolution to change, we do however have to start to punish those that do harm. Most people just need a roof over their heads and food on the table to be satisfied. It is those people that deserve our attention. We finally understand that,..
PLASTIC is not FANTASTIC!
Think Global, Be Local,……. It’s all good!
Live your local cultures and traditions. Be with those that share your believes. Be a proud Nationalist or Urban Citizen. Just don’t pretend to be better than your fellow human beings of different needs and believes. BE!
Not a dependent junky for anything from sex to coffee, gambling or drugs and material wealth. Just be!
And when your healthy at least be grateful for that!
Make the 21st Century become the New-Sanity-Century!
Yeah #YouToo…………
