Creative Progressive Politics over Ancient Suppressive politics.
( And The Catalan Referendum.)
…………………………………………………………….
What is shown in 2017 by the Spanish Government in its dealings with the Catalan Referendum is clear proof, that modern-politics has not kept up with the needs of a modern age.
Another fact that springs forth, is that of a lack of leadership from the European Union in these matters.
At the founding of the Union, a guiding principle was that of a Union of Peace. The Monetary Union came second in that principle. When it came to the creation of the Union it was reduced to an economic Union. And that’s where the Union already demonstrated a lack of vision. Instead of really creating and marketing a United One-Market Union With a 500 million potential customer base, it simply went for open trade-borders and a single currency.
Instead of putting Music, Entertainment & the Movie Industry behind the endeavor, it stuck to the financial-elite. Instead of selling Europe to its next generations really as a Union, it merely created a web of consumer & trade rules. Rules that governed from above, do not always apply to the actual reality when implemented, and often create civil tensions. Like the overrated bookkeepers & civil-servants they are, they went hard to work in creating a paper trail.
These primary actions should have warned some citizens of the Union, of the Euro-Commission’s lack of creative progressive thinking. We know now it did not! Now, these short-minded geopolitical & strategic actions by The European-Union and most present politicians around the World are a dead-give-away for the polarizing World we live in today.
The Catalan Referendum:
The Catalan referendum is a clear & transparent example of where governments go wrong.
The referendum is a tool in any countries political toolbox. It is never binding and mostly only used as a civil statement towards it’s National political leaders. This was already clear when the referendum over the European Constitution was rejected by the citizens of France, Ireland and the Netherlands, and still the constitution was signed into law.
Therefore, Spain could have just let the voting take place without any actual direct political consequences?! Even the European Union could have played a part together with the Spanish Government, by for instance granting the Catalonian people some steady progressive autonomy within Spain & the Union?!
The subsequent Police actions in this matter, are clearly a lack of vision and could erode the Union further or even create terrorist counter actions. Thereby again creating a cycle of violence and hardening standpoints between governments and their citizens. This would than only result in a even larger suppressive police apparatus to be paid by these same citizens?
So,…where are the Politicians with solutions?
The rise and return of 12th Century Nationalism in many Countries around the World, should be seen as proof of faltering Democratic Politics. The Neoliberal & Capitalistic models have not generated a trickle-down-effect and inequality is on the rise. The middle classes are steadily being erased, in order to create a system based on ruling-classes & working-classes. Not a very creative concept at all! It seems our politicians can’t seem to get away from simple black-and-white models for our collective societies. While the Business models are being changed faster than those of our societies, the people are caught in the middle between all these arrogant overpaid quibbling parties. The civil tensions are coming from the top-down and create rising polarization between all kinds of groups.
Democratically elected parties are with a democratic system in order to find middle-ground and practical solutions in order to better our daily quality-of-life. At present they are being directed & corrupted into dominating child-play games that serve no long-term purpose and offer no solutions. These ancient minds need to either get with it, or surrender their positions. In a Globalizing World, we all need to close-in on the idea of being Global-Citizens. We need to ,’Act-Local-&-Think-Global! In light of that sentiment the actions by the Spanish Government & the lack of action by the European Union has no place in Modern-Politics.
