Meltingpot Europe
………………………………..
This article tries to deal with failed opportunities and real changes for the future in the creation off a United Europe.
The idea for a United Europe is ,’in it’s roots’, not a bad one. It is the way that European politicians went about in achieving and realizing this idea where it failed.
It is a fact that the focus was put on a monetary union before a united divers cultural entity based on mutual respect and diversity used as a strength.
In 1996 I started with the creation of a monthly event in Amsterdam called Melting-pot Music & artists (MPM). In those days it was my hope that I would be enabled to create a monthly gathering, that would show diversity in art, fashion, music and cultures in general.
In Amsterdam’s renowned Milky-Way we started with a group of volunteers to create this monthly gathering. At first it was a slow start but pretty soon we got our events going and every month showed progression and more and more diversity. So far so good.
Now, …my real intention was to create a role-model of diversity, mutual respect and real cultural integration. I believed I could create an example that could serve as a blueprint for a TV show. I also wanted to break the Anglo-Saxon Industrial power in the music industry because of their lack of culture and their blatant pursuit of selling a glorified Pimps, Ho’s, Guns and Drugs market worldwide! They lacked and still lack all culture needed for real entertainment. All they have proven to be good at is, High-end production value that lacks content.
For this reason, I had integrated professional live audio & video recordings in order to be able to present my ideas to broadcasting companies and political decision makers.
I wanted to present my idea in such a way that we could grow into a European monthly broadcast, promoting European and even Global diversity.
For this reason I contacted many television stations, the Amsterdam mayors office, Van de Ende special projects and even Miss Vivian Reading at the European union in Brussels.
I presented my case for a monthly or even a weekly broadcast that would sell the idea of a United Europe to our youth, by creating a sort of MTV Europe.
This broadcast would show music, fashion and art from Europe’s different mayor cities. It would be a tool of aid in the integration of the many different cultures that enrich Europe. A role-model alongside with the introduction of a monetary union. The letter I got back from Miss reading stated clearly that the European union would in no manner or in anyway aid me in my plans to realize such an idea. Financially or otherwise. Thus-far the EU response. locally and Nationally I got no response or aid whatsoever either.
When I was invited to participate in discussion panel for local TV AT5 in Amsterdam when Amsterdam hosted the first European Top meeting, in the nineties, I put my question forth regarding the lack of cultural integration and unification and the obsessive focus on the monetary union, my question was cut out of its reruns later that week. It seemed I was censored?
Needless to say I was dumbfounded by the lack of vision by our leaders and I stopped organizing the Events within a year after we had started. Drained and disillusioned I could only but thank all the volunteers that had helped create the events. The audio & video recordings of these hugely creative events now lie rotting away in some cupboards.
I still believe that such an endeavour would have aided in a small way to the actual realization of a United Europe. I still believe we could have generated real money by creating our own European music distribution networks.
To get back to Europe at present;
We still have this larger focus on a monetary union, without the necessary input of the ideas of internal European mutual cultural respect as a selling point. This can be called strange to say the least. Any Historian knows that Europe’s strength comes forth from it’s culturally rich past.
As an experiment the European initiative could ,’in the future’, be used as a blueprint to the Globalization and coming together of the World into one Global Government. This is sure to happen one day. Although with the lack of vision, in- and oversight as shown by our present political and industrial leaders, it will probably take much, much longer than needed.
This leads me to the following question: Do our leaders want a Global Union ,’or for now a European Union’, or are they still occupied with outdated games of dominance over ,’the people’?
Is their attitude towards the people still that of arrogant kindergarten bully’s? For the people by the people, seems further away than ever at the moment. And even the one-liner,’Think Global, act Local’, has not been put forth to it’s full strength.
All seem to be caught up in petty bickering and territorial or religious cross-fights. Not one leader has put forth a real vision for the future. So Globalization will have to wait and it seems Global civil unrest and the fights between tribes and minorities will continue for decades to come as divides are being played out by the media and polarisation between governments increases.
The media will not play a positive role in these developments, considering their role in the last few decades in heightening tensions. And although I believe most people just want a simple good life and that most people can be satisfied with little, I believe that they will be played-out against one another as they have been in our collective history. Rising tensions and pockets of unrest will keep our entire species from making evolutionary leaps forward, as we once did In the past.
It seems we people constantly overestimate our intelligence. So in this age of new found technology and its many gadgets, our social awareness and our societies have not evolved at the same rate.
So, from expensive meeting to expensive meeting our leaders travel to talk and talk without end and with meagre results to say the least. G8, the UN, Bilderberg, World Economic Forum and so forth, and so forth. So while farmers, carpenters, plumbers, constructors, backers and all these traditional trades folks keep our real lives going on, others just talk a lot, whilst making billions on arms trade, polluting the planet as they go along.
I saw an interview with Robert Greenberg director for the W.E.F., quoting Darwin. Darwin had said that it is not the strong that survive, but those that adapt well to changing circumstances. This sounds logic, right? Even Christine Lagarde stated on TV5monde that austerity measures were counter productive to Economic recovery. Governments should spent less and be more efficient and lower taxes!? Sounds again very logic?! So why are these things not happening and being brought forth to the public in general? They also stated that banks should not just be regulated to death, but be forced into changing their overall attitude to making profits. So it seems that less but clearer talk would help everybody here.
That is why we are stuck with slow changing rules of engagement. Our leaders talk too much and do too little. Corruption, fraud and white collar crimes are still hardly punished not withstanding the many victims they create. Justice seems a game for the wealthy and fiction for all those others.
While I still believe in the creation and coming about of a Global Government, I probably won’t be around long enough to witness it. Quietly I do hope to see a new Global currency come about within my life-time. Hopefully this can come about without a currency-war or a 3rd world war. At least that would be a beginning towards our common future shared. One thing is for sure; the vision needed for this to come about won’t come from Viacom, Disney, MTV or their corporate cronies. It will have to be a swell from the ground up. A Worldwide awakening by consumers to their mass power and an awakening to the responsibilities we all commonly share to the next generations as well as ourselves. One thing is for sure we all need to educate each other more and we need to stop polarizing and feeding one-liners through false news media. They serve no purpose but to those that serve themselves with no regard to the future!
